Benefits of an au pair over a babysitter or nanny
There are many benefits why you would
choose to have an Au pair over a babysitter or nanny including, but
not limited to:
Cost Effective
An au pair is the most cost effective form of paid
childcare. Using Australia as an example, an au pair
works 30-40+ hours a week and the cost of having
an au pair is between $150-250 per week plus their food and
accommodation - that's from $4 an hour!
Whilst you are required provide food and accommodation for your
au pair, the hourly working rate is extremely cost effective.
Flexible working hours
Includes childcare and other duties such as light housework,
laundry, cooking, shopping and errands, pet care etc...
For example your au pair can start from 7am, get the children
ready for school, take them to school, do some laundry or cooking,
then have a few hours free time, then collect the children from
school, help with home work, bath time and dinner time.
Available at short notice
As au pairs live in your family home, they are available at
short notice to assist with various duties such as
babysitting. You don't have to call around to the nanny or
babysitters in the area…
Exposure to people from another country
It is fantastic having a person from another country live in
your house. It provides particularly the children with an
understanding of what it is like to living in another country, and
the au pair can explain to the children the differences between
their country and your country.
Many families begin to expose their children to other languages
including those that they are currently studying at school to help
them understand more about the languages that they are interested
in.
