Visa Information

Should they wish to stay longer than 3 months, they need to
register at the Austrian Employment Service (AMS). The host family
needs to notify AMS at least two weeks prior to the start of
employment. Once this is done, the AMS will issue a
confirmation of notification (Anzeigebestätigung). Proof
of Health and Accident insurance obtained for the au pair as well

provided. A template of such a contract can be found at: http://www.ams.at/_docs/Au-pair-Mustervertrag_08.pdf.
The host family must also provide details of all duties the au pair
will be required to perform whilst they are living with them.
- Nationals from other countries will require a residence permit
(Aufenthaltserlaubnis). This can be obtained from an Austrian
Embassy or Consulate. The host family must apply for the work
permit and only once it's received can the au pair depart their
home country. The host family can apply for the au pair's work
permit via the AMS. The AMS website is http://www.ams.at/. The visa is valid for 6
months but may be extended for a further 6 months. Work permit
processing time is lengthy, so we recommend you apply at least 4-6
months ahead.
