We got our first au pair two years ago with much trepidation. We
both needed to work full-time, and our children needed the hands-on
care that we simply could not see any other way of achieving.
So we went online and selected an au pair from Germany who came
to live with us for 6 months. She cared for our 3 children, driving
them to school and kindergarten and looked after the house while we
worked in our jobs by day. This was our first au pair, she filled
our house with German children's songs, counting and international
delights as well. We ate German sausages, and celebrated when she
met an Aussie lad. It was sad when she left, but we went on and
found another, and another, and another... three years on,
tomorrow, our fifth au pair joins us from Canada, who we are
excited to meet. Every single one takes us on another adventure and
teaches our family something new. And, we certainly can't complain
about the help they give us, driving our kids to and from school,
preparing lunches, doing laundry, tidying up, babysitting regularly
and being the extra set of hands you need when times get busy or
someone has to work late.
We love having an au pair.
